Delhi Bars Non-BS6 Vehicles from Nov 1 — Is Your NCR Vehicle on the Banned List?

Delhi has begun barring non-BS6 (Bharat Stage VI) vehicles registered outside the capital from entering the city, as part of its annual winter pollution-control plan. The restriction runs from November 1, 2026 to January 31, 2027.

What the rule says

Only vehicles that meet BS6 emission norms are allowed to enter Delhi during this window. Petrol and diesel vehicles registered outside Delhi that are BS4 or older will be turned away at the border checkpoints. The move is aimed squarely at reducing vehicular emissions during the months when Delhi’s air quality is at its worst.

Who is affected

The ban hits commuters across the National Capital Region. Reports estimate over 10 lakh vehicles in cities like Gurgaon, Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad and other NCR towns could be affected, since a large share of older vehicles plying Delhi’s borders fall outside BS6 compliance.

How to check if your vehicle is allowed

The simplest way is to check your Registration Certificate (RC):

  • The RC of a BS6 vehicle clearly mentions its Bharat Stage / emission-norm compliance (BS6).
  • BS4 and older petrol/diesel vehicles are the ones covered by the entry ban.
  • If your vehicle is electric, CNG or BS6-compliant, entry is permitted.

What this means for owners

If you regularly drive an older, non-BS6 vehicle into Delhi, this winter you will need an alternative — carpooling, public transport, or a BS6-compliant vehicle. The restriction is part of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) measures that also include work-from-home advisories, construction curbs and other pollution controls when air quality deteriorates.
