In a major crackdown on the senior transport department, the Delhi government has posted the senior Delhi Administrative Subordinate Services (DASS) cadre officials from other government departments as Motor Licensing Officers (MLO) in Delhi Transport Department.
The move, first of its kind, comes after the Delhi transport department’s crack down on three Regional Transport Offices (RTO) after it was found that there were major irregularities in issuance of driving licences. This was followed by the suspension of motor licensing officers heading these offices.
“In a move to break the monopoly of transport department cadre officers to hold sensitive public dealing posts, section officers of Delhi Administrative Subordinate Services cadre have been posted as MLOs for the first time,” a top transport department official said.

Meanwhile, Delhi Administrative Subordinate Services (DASS) cadre officers have been posted as MLOs at IP Depot, Mayur Vihar and driving licence suspension cell. Earlier last week, the government had suspended MLOs of Surajmal Vihar, IP Depot and Vasant Vihar after raids were conducted by KK Dahiya, Special Commissioner (Transport) following reports of driving licences being issued without following norms.
“So far posts of MLOs have been held by cadre officers of Transport due to which they remained as MLOs only and could not be transferred to any other post,” the official said.
