5-door Thar to be launched by 2023

Mahindra has finally announced that 5-door Thar is on the cards. The second-generation Mahindra Thar is already smashing all the records ever since its launch in 2020. Mahindra is barely keeping up with demand for its new SUV, which has piqued many consumers’ curiosity. However, a functional 5-door variant has been missing. Still Thar has registered strong sales and has clocked over 55,000 orders already.

This fantastic news, however, comes with a catch. The 5-door Thar will not be available until 2023. It implies there’s still time between now and then, so don’t hurry to the showroom just yet. Bringing in a 5-door version of the second-generation Thar is an excellent decision. People will be able to step into and out of the back seats with less fumbling and discomfort with rear doors. Because the 5-door model’s projected launch date is still a long way off, Mahindra has not revealed any specific date.

Exterior

Meanwhile, we can make a few predictions on our end. The 5-door Thar’s wheelbase may be lengthened. For comparison, the wheelbase of the current 3-door model is 2,450mm. This cabin may accommodate a three-seater bench instead of the two individual seats without requiring a wheelbase extension. Mahindra will have to lengthen the Thar considerably to accommodate the back doors. Moving the rear wheels and expanding the footboards will, of course, be part of the re-engineering.

Interior

The 5-door Thar is expected to have similar interiors to the current model. Of course, the back doors and a new bench seat will be the main changes to the inside. Mahindra may incorporate power-operated rear windows, door bottle storage, and maybe even a rear AC vent to go along with these features.

The current Thar’s top-spec version has a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 6-speaker stereo system, cruise control, electrically adjustable side mirrors, and keyless entry. Similarly, the safety features of the outgoing Thar, including as Electronic Stability Program, Electronic Roll Over Mitigation, dual airbags, and ABS with EBD with Brake Assist, should be carried over to the 5-door Thar.
